Committees To Aid You
The FPO's have created a number of specialized
committees that will allow you to gain new
ideas and share some of your own. Members
may participate in committee meetings as
a voting member of the committee or simply
as a FPO Member.
The number of voting members varies, and is set by the bylaws; however, there is no limit on the number of members who may participate in committee meetings.
Fire Code Committee: Participates in the development and adoption process of the NFPA Fire Code, the International Fire Code, and the California Fire Code. The Fire Code Committee develops code change proposals, and may support or challenge proposed code changes submitted by other agencies or organizations.
Building Standards Committee: Participates in the development and adoption process of the NFPA Building Code, the International Building Code, and California Building Code. The Building Standards Committee develops code change proposals, and may support or challenge proposed code changes submitted by other agencies or organizations. So Cal FPO's have incorporated this committee into the Fire Code Committee as the "Building Standards Task Force." It may be re-established as a stand alone committee in the near future.
Fire Equipment and Devices Committee:Monitors development and testing of new fire protection equipment and devices. Participates in the development of proposed changes to codes and standards relating to fire protection equipment and devices. Proposes changes to such codes and standards, and may support or challenge proposed changes submitted by other agencies or organizations. Advises the Executive Board and members on matters relating to fire protection equipment and devices.
Fire Service Education Committee:Designs classes and seminars to improve the skills, knowledge and understanding of fire prevention to fire service and private industry professionals.
Hazardous Materials Committee:Discusses the development of laws and regulations pertaining to the enforcement of hazardous materials regulations. Participates in the development and adoption process hazardous materials related Articles in the Fire Code. Proposes code changes and may support or challenge proposed changes submitted by other agencies or organizations. At the current time, the So Cal FPO's does not have a Haz Mat Committee.
Legislative Committee:Monitors state legislation through various sources including the State Fire Marshal's Office and the California Fire Chief's Legislative Committee. Evaluates pending legislation and regulation for potential impact on fire protection. Participates in meetings and hearings pertaining to legislation and regulation and advises both the Nor Cal and So Cal Presidents on matters relating to legislation and regulation. Nor Cal FPO's are responsible for this committee function.
Public Education Committee:Discusses new and innovative ideas to make public education more effective. Develops public education programs which can be implemented by local jurisdictions. Coordinates with other public education organizations worldwide.
