2009 Year in Review
-
The Committee worked diligently on the California amendments to the international code hearing in Baltimore, MD – Co-chairs were present at the hearings on behalf of the California Fire Chiefs Association (CFCA). We will continue with our efforts to support changes to the International Code Council (ICC) as well as California codes. This Committee continues its involvement and support of all coordinated efforts during this transition phase.
-
Served as a representative and Co-chair to Office of the State Fire Marshall’s (OSFM) workgroup on NFPA 13 fire sprinkler systems, bringing to the California Fire Code (CFC), the latest edition of NFPA 13 to the codes, still maintaining the existing California requirements.
-
Served as a representative to OSFM’s Task Force on Residential Fire Sprinkler/Water Supply in preparation for the possible adoption of a statewide residential fire sprinkler code requirement.
Goals for 2010
-
Continue our involvement in developing code changes and reviewing code issues in the international codes.
-
Support NorCal FPOs’ Fire Service Education Committee in obtaining the needed classes, have them available to the membership and assist them in understanding the ICC Codes and the new California codes.
-
Continue to work closely with the Southern California Fire Equipment & Devices Co-chairs to create a unified understanding of the State’s position on changes to the codes.
-
Continue to seek opportunities for involvement in developing codes, regulations and standards both statewide and nationally.
-
Continue the development of contacts with California Fire Prevention Officers (CFPO) on the behalf of our sponsoring body CFCA. Our goal is to carry on with the work to make California a major role-player in the ICC code development and changes.
