Vision 20/20

Vision 20/20 Model Performance in Fire Prevention symposium to bring together national experts to learn about model fire prevention programs for their communities.  SoCal FPO immediate Past-President and current Judge Advocate Doug Dupree will attend as one of two California reprepresentatives.

Symposium will provide first-of-its-kind opportunity to learn about fire prevention programs that can be replicated in their own communities

Alexandria, VA – June 15, 2010   Over 150 fire prevention experts from across the nation will gather in Baltimore, Maryland on June 28 and 29 to share information about model fire prevention programs that have proven results in reducing the risk of fire.  These programs can be replicated in other towns and cities across the country, helping to reduce the tragic loss of life, injury and property destruction from fires, many of which are avoidable.

The symposium is sponsored by Vision 20/20 under a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant from the Department of Homeland Security to the Institution of Fire Engineers – USA Branch.  Funding is provided for representatives of all fifty states to attend and take information back about these unique programs for use in their own jurisdictions.  In addition, a number of companies and organizations will be involved in demonstrating their products or services that can help the attendees in reducing the impact of fire on their communities.

Some of the presentations that will be offered, among others, include:

*     California’s and Maryland’s statewide adoption of residential sprinklers

*     A solution for unattended cooking fires

*     Innovative prevention programs that use unique outreach opportunities

*     Youth fire setting reduction program

*     United States Fire Administration online information repository for fire safety educators

*     A report on NFPA’s study of fire code enforcement performance measures

In addition, Vision 20/20 staff will present the important fire prevention model performance benchmarking measures that were developed under the Vision 20/20 project as well as a fire prevention advocacy kit currently under development.  This kit is designed to be used by fire officials in advocating for fire prevention programs with their local government officials and provides information to use in justifying the positive, long-term economic impact of fire prevention programs.
