The Committee continues to provide Southern Division fire prevention professionals with educational programs designed to improve their skills, knowledge and understanding of fire prevention issues. The Co-chairs for this Committee are Robert Nolan, Anaheim Fire Department and Terri Leyton, Principal of Protection Design and Consulting. This Committee continues to meet as necessary to coordinate and plan training classes that are delivered throughout the year.

 

In 2009 this Committee was active in presenting a schedule of training throughout Southern California to bring updated information on fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems as well as 2006 ICC model codes. Some of the Committee highlights from the past year are as follows:

 

April - Co-hosted with AFAA Intermediate Fire Alarm Training

May - Co-hosted with NFSA: Overview of NFPA 13;

Intro to Plan Review; and

Plan Review Policies and Procedures

September - Co-hosted with ICC: Performing Fire Inspections in Commercial Occupancies

Co-hosted with NFSA: 2007 NFPA Overview;

Hydraulic Calculations;

Underground Piping for Fire Protection; and

Basic Seismic Protection

 

In all, there were more than 198 attendees.

 

Our Goals & Objectives for 2010 are:

 

· Provide a minimum of six (6) educational classes to provide education to our membership and generate income for the organization.

· Continue to provide information on training opportunities available in Southern CA.

· Solicit input for training needs in our organization.

· Encourage participation and membership in SoCal FPO.
