Existing Member's Access
Usernames and Passwords were sent to the primary email account for all current California Fire Prevention Officers members April 2010. Members can access discussion boards, documents, meeting and event registration information, and other resources that are not available to non-members. If you did not receive an email containing your login information, you can request a password reset by clicking on the "reset password" link below the login button. A small number of members did not have email addresses on file, and did not receive login credentials. Please contact CFPO for assistance.
New Members
Membership is open to a wide variety of professionals in the fields of fire suppression and prevention. Membership is on an individual basis and on a calendar year renewal schedule. A key feature of CA-FPO membership is the opportunity for collaborate with some of the top minds in fire suppression and prevention. This kind of exposure is extremely valuable in building a professional fire service career.
- Regular Members: This membership is for regular and volunteer members of municipal, county, state and federal fire suppression and fire prevention agencies, and other governmental agencies. Annual dues for new regular members are set by the North and South Divisions, and may differ. See below.
- Associate Members: Associate members represent a wide range of fire prevention interests and occupations. This membership group is made up of vocal advocates for the aims and purpose of CA-FPO and may include fire protection consultants, representatives from the sprinkler industry, fire alarm industry, fire equipment manufacturers, and other fire prevention organizations. Dues are set by the North and South Divisions, and may differ. See below.
- Retired members who represent fire related businesses are welcome as Associate Members. Annual dues for new Associate Members are set by the North and South Divisions, and may differ. See below.
- Retired Members: These are past Regular Members who are honorably retired from their department or agency. Annual dues are set by the North and South Divisions, and may differ. See below.
- Student Members: These are non voting members interested in actively seeking employment in the fire service by enrollment in a curriculum leading toward a degree in Fire Service Technology. Annual dues are set by the North and South Divisions, and may differ. See below.
Benefits
Membership affords the opportunity to be part of a statewide organization of fire service professionals that have impact on the local, state and national level. Other benefits include:
- Career advancement opportunities through networking and committee collaboration: Nine committees offer participants a wide range of experience and exposure, from fire code legislation to wildland fire prevention and public education. Committee participants often have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with some of the leading experts in fire prevention, suppression and legislation.
- Professional peer recognition through participation in fire prevention and legislative activities. Members have opportunities to share their interests and accomplishments at statewide and national levels.
- Access to national organizations like ICC and NFPA. Members participate in critical fire prevention initiatives at state and national levels. CA-FPO sponsors and actively support members who desire to serve on select committees and boards.
- Advanced training and knowledge of fire prevention issues and techniques. Members have access to a wide range of skills training and mentoring taught by seasoned fire service experts. Members are eligible for discounts on selected workshops and training opportunities. In addition, members receive a 20% discount on ICC code books.
- Knowledge that participation in CA-FPO can improve the life-safety and welfare of California communities. Members can take pride in being part of a growing awareness of the need and value of fire prevention in our society.
- As a Member you may have the opportunity to represent your organization at International Fire Code and Building Code hearings across the country. You not only have a voice in code change, but the ability to gain valuable insight on the “behind the scenes” process of how codes originate and why they change. Members who are committee co-chairs get their expenses paid for by CA-FPO.
North Membership
Nor Cal provides for several types of memberships as shown below. All memberships are for individuals; organizational memberships are not available. Memberships are based on the fiscal year, and are renewable annually.
Regular Membership: Restricted to all regular and volunteer members of municipal, county, state and federal fire suppression and fire prevention agencies, and other governmental agencies. Dues for new regular members are currently set at $55.00. Renewals of regular memberships are $45.00. New! Associate Membership: Open to fire protection engineers and to any other person interested in, and in accord with the aims and purposes of Nor Cal. Among our Associate Members are fire protection consultants, sprinkler industry representatives, alarm industry representatives, fire protection equipment manufacturing representatives, and many similar organizations. Retired members who represent any fire related business are classified as Associate Members. Dues for new Associate Members are currently set at $85.00. Renewals of Associate Memberships are $75.00. Student Membership: This is a non voting membership open to those persons interested in, and actively seeking employment in the fire service by enrollment in a curriculum leading towards a degree in Fire Service Technology. Student Membership: This is a non voting membership open to those persons interested in, and actively seeking employment in the fire service by enrollment in a curriculum leading towards a degree in Fire Service Technology. Dues for Student Memberships are currently set at $26.00.

- All current members are eligible to participate in the Fire Prevention Workshop held annually near Buellton, California.

- Media inquiries should be directed to the current president of the North or South Division, as appropriate.
7. How often does the organization meet and how long are the meetings?
- NOR-CAL FPOs hold general membership meetings every month (except December and May due to the Holidays, and March due to the Annual FPO Workshop) at various locations throughout Northern California. Members have the opportunity to share ideas, hear reports from the State Fire Marshal's Office, hear legislative reports; participate in committee meetings and to network with their counterparts from all over Northern California. Meetings generally start at 9:00am and conclude at 2:00pm. A complete meeting schedule is posted here.
