Minutes – Monthly - Membership Meeting

Irish Cultural Center
President Arvin called the April 23, 2004 meeting to order at 0931 hours at the Irish Cultural Center in San Francisco.
Kate Dargan conducted the pledge of allegiance and Past President Steve Hart was appointed Sergeant of Arms
President Arvin introduced host Fire Marshal Tom Harvey. Captain Harvey introduced Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White who welcomed the group to San Francisco and praised Captain Harvey and Pat Stranahan for their efforts in bringing the meeting to San Francisco.
The organization recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs and Building Officials.
Self-introductions were made. President Arvin asked Immediate Past President and newly appointed Judge Advocate Mike Stewart to declared a quorum.
A motion was made to approve the February minutes by President Arvin. A motion was made by Gene Gantt to approve the minutes. Tonya Hoover 2nd Motion carried
The 2004 Charles Gray Memorial Award was formally presented to Tonya Hoover by Past President Judge Advocate Mike Stewart.
A resolution was read by President Arvin recognizing the career of George Blind and congratulating him on an outstanding career in the field of Fire Prevention while a member of the Sunnyvale Fire Department and co-chair of the Fire Equipment and Devices Committee.
The NORCAL FPO's co-chairs were appointed by President Arvin to serve through the 2004-5 year. Theresa Johnson was appointed Operations Director for 2004-5.
SFM Report was reported by Leslie Haberek, Rodney Slaughter and Daniel Najerra (see attached Monthly Report California State Fire Marshal April 2004). Subjects covered in the report included;

Kate Dargan and Gene Gantt provided an April 2004 Legislative Report to the Membership. See the attached report in the minutes for additional information.
PROGRAM
A program was presented by Russell P. Fleming, P.E., Executive Vice President of NFSA on end-of–line restraints and hangars and bracing for NFPA 13 fire sprinkler systems.

Exchange of Ideas
Roger Benson; FM Global, Mr. Benson discussed a fire that occurred in 250,000 square foot fully sprinklered building equipped with a fire pump in Tennessee. The fire main reportedly came apart and the fire sprinkler system failed. FM Global is investigating why the system failed and will report the findings at a later date. The last date of the pump test was not available.
Rick Rodewald; Monterey Fire Department, Monterey has adopted a Zero-based sprinkler ordinance. Rick also reported a fire that occurred in Monterey that was the result of a candle fire that took the life of a 2-year old child.
Fort Hartsfield; Webmaster, The joint North/South Website is online. Fort is seeking new advertisers and sponsors for the website. Contact Fort Hartsfield if interested.
Darrell Harguth; Past President, A new fire extinguisher gauge is available that senses the readiness of the extinguisher. The gauge can also interface with fire alarm systems.
George Devendorf; San Bruno Fire Department, Reported problems with candle fires
Kent Miller; Stockton Fire Department, Announced that he is putting together a consortium of firefighting foam resources
Forrest Craig; Novato Fire Department, Announced 2-Wildland Fire Investigation Classes to be held June 1 and 2 in Solano County.
