Minutes – Monthly Membership Meeting

Foster City, CA

President Giuliani called the April 28, 2006 meeting to order at 0930 hours in Foster City.

Past President Larry Monette conducted the pledge of allegiance and George Devendorf was appointed Sergeant of Arms.

President Giuliani introduced host Fire Marshal Rocque Yballa from Central County Fire, who welcomed the group. He then introduced Fire Chief Gerald Coleman who welcomed everyone to lovely San Mateo County.

The organization recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs, Building Officials, and guests.

Self-introductions were made. President Giuliani asked Past President Dennis Mathisen to declare a quorum, so declared.

A motion was made to approve the February minutes by President Giuliani. Moved, seconded, approved.

Tribute to Charles Gray recipient Gene Gantt – Gene was recognized for his various longstanding contributions to the organization.

Congratulations to both Lorin Neyer and Jaymae Wentker for their recent promotions.

Our condolences to Gene Gantt and Ethan Foote on the recent loss of a loved one.

Thank you to Fort Hartsfield for his dedicated service as our Marketing Director. Fort will be stepping down from this position. Pat Stranahan with San Francisco Fire Dept. has agreed to take over as the Marketing Director.

State Fire Marshal Report

Assistant State Fire Marshal Kate Dargan gave the State Fire Marshal’s report. Proposed target date for completion of CBSC code adoption process is January 2008. The most recent code work will be posted on the website early next week. AFM Dargan also reported on the upcoming changes in personnel in the SFM’s office – several pending promotions and retirements. Beginning January 2007, training classes will be available for fire and building officials on the new Chapter 7A requirements.

Exchange of Ideas

Keith Marshall advised that South San Francisco recently responded to a residential structure fire with the activation of the automatic sprinkler system. The family were all saved and the damage was limited to approximately $40,000.00.

Sam Husoe advised 5/16, 5/17/ 5/18 automatic sprinkler classes. See NFSA website for further details.

Jim Bollier, Sprinkler Fitters Union, advised A/S training coming up 5/17, no cost, six seats left.

Hans Henneburque, Sonoma County FPO’s, advised one day workshop on WUI coming up 6/21.

Richard Carpenter advised that they recently had an incident involving fire in a vehicle repair facility. The worker suffered second-degree burns, of 116 sprinkler heads, all but three activated.

Bill Greene advised of a kitchen fire in a residence. Two smoke alarms of eight worked. Bill advised that the facility appeared to qualify as a licensed care facility but was not.

Rocque Yballa advised R2 class coming up in June. Contact Rick Carpenter for further information.

Rocque Yballa also advised that he will be resuming the standing mid-month meetings for the Fire Code Committee. Contact Rocque for further information.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

President Giuliani gave a report of E-board items discussed.

Congratulations to Paul Inouye who will be the FPO representative on the SFM Hydrogen Highway Advisory Committee.

Congratulations to Ron Keefer who will be the FPO representative on the NFPA 704 technical committee.

There will be an Ad Hoc Fire Service Education Committee formed to create an action plan for the implementation of the I-codes.

San Mateo County FPO’s conducted the raffle.

The meeting was adjourned at about 1400 hours. Next meeting will be in San Francisco on May 19, 2006.
