Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting
Petaluma

The August meeting was called to order by President Rick Terry at 9:33 hours at the Lucchesi Community Center in Petaluma.

Keith Schoenthal San Rafael Fire Department, led the pledge of allegiance.

Dan Najera CDF/SFM, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.

Host Fire Marshal Michael Ginn welcomed the group to Petaluma. He then introduced his staff, Fire Inspector Scott Moon, Office Assistant Trish Custer. Fire Chief Terry Krout welcomed the group to Petaluma and then introduced Vice Mayor Pam Torliett who also welcomed the group.

President Terry recognized Liaison Chief Doug Williams, Chief Joe Perry and retired Chief Bill Ellis.

Self-introductions were made. At this time Larry Monette Past President, declared a quorum.

A motion was made to approve the July 2000 minutes. Minutes were approved as mailed.


Exchange of ideas:

Gene Gantt Benicia Fire Department, announced an opening for a Assistant Fire Marshal.

Lynn Trickle Napa Fire Department, reminded the group that next months meeting in Napa requires pre-registration.

Jeff Ringelman Vacaville Fire Department, announced an opening for a plan review inspector.

Tonya Hoover Past President, Moraga Orinda Fire District, stated that the bay area air quality district sent out an advisory on requirements for fuel dispensing and that the fire districts may be out of compliance.

Larry Larson NFSA and soon to be retired for the second time talked about the need for pipe fitters. After a five year training program it is possible to make up to $60,000 a year.

Pete Munoa Co-Chair Fire Service Education Committee, CDF Napa County, thanked Bill Greene for waving his fee for the July 31st class. Pete also announced a Basic Fire Investigation class on September 25th and 26th in San Ramon.

Jim DiGrazia US Consumer Products Commission, announced two recalls. See announcment in the minutes.

Rick Thornberry The Code Consortium, has returned from Baltimore, the NFPA 5000 draft is out. He is concerned with the process and lack of fire officials involvement.

Diane Grinbergs Berkeley Fire Department has received complaints regarding phone calls from a firefighting charity.

Joe Perry Napa Fire Department, spoke on the building an dfire code issues. He will be speaking at the ICBO conference. Joe also stated that the International Fire Chiefs will be making a decision on which fire code they will support soon.


State Fire Marshal Report – Joe Garcia SFM

Joe passed out information which included an organization chart, phone list, and interpretations. The state is working on getting the interpretations on line soon. SB 1896 has been amended again to define bedridden and to make the Department of Social Services the agency to determine a patients status.

Thank you City of Petaluma and all contributors for an excellent and well-attended meeting! Much appreciation is extended to the Petaluma Fire Department and all staff for making the necessary arrangements. The organization appreciates all raffle contributions that support the organization and committee activities.

President Terry adjourned the meeting at 2:15 hours.
