President Mike Stewart called the July meeting to order at 0935 hours at the Petaluma Lucchesi Community Center in Petaluma, CA.

Gene Gantt conducted the pledge of allegiance and Elliot Gittleman was appointed the Sergeant at Arms.

President Stewart introduced Fire Marshal, Michael Ginn. Chief Ginn welcomed the group to Petaluma, California

Visiting Fire Chiefs and Building Officials and Past Presidents were recognized.

Self-introductions were made. At this time, Steve Hart, Past President declared a quorum. Everyone looked great in their Hawaiian shirts. Those that forgot were promptly fined.


President Stewart gave an update on the State Code issue. He thanked all that participated in the process for their hard work. Next steps include making sure the FPO’s stay involved in the code development process. Both Northern and Southern FPO Board Presidents have been contacted by NFPA to start a dialog. 


State Fire Marshal Report –Dan Nahera presented the State Fire Marshal report. See the attached report which is also available on the SFM and Nor Cal FPO’s websites. Questions related to state budget cutbacks and SFM limited resources were directed to Dan. Dan stated that the SFM’s Office has been severely impacted; including limitations on travel and regulation development.


Division of the State Architect Report – Brian Heyman is busy working on school issues in Southern California and will not be able to attend our meetings.


Legislative Report – Gene Gantt presented this month’s legislative report. See the attached report for more details or the Nor Cal website.


Exchange of ideas:

Sam Husoe – Federal Bill 1824 and SB 1655 are two sprinkler related bills. Sam provided the new fire sprinkler coloring books.

Darren Drake – Next Nor Cal FPO meeting will be in Napa and RSVP’s are required.

Scott Moon – Petaluma will be co-sponsoring a Fire Death class.

Kate Dargan – Inquired if anyone is allowing swimming pools for water supplies? She also announced that at the Napa Nor Cal meeting there will be a wine cave fire protection seminar as the afternoon program.

Rick Terry – San Ramon Valley FPD is working with Nor Cal to put on a PC832 class.

Steve Hart – Donated another book for the raffle. Also the sprinkler ordinance survey is complete as of today. An executive summary will be available next month.

Gene Gantt – Thanked President Stewart for all his effort on the State Code issue.

Rick Rodewald – Is the Committee Chair for Peter Uberoff for Governor.

Wes Arvin – Rosters are in.

Dennis Mathisen – Roseville is looking for job specifications and salary information for Public Education Specialist and Technician positions.

Meeting was adjourned to Committees and Executive Board meeting at 10:30 a.m..


The aftenoon program was wine making by St. Supery Vinyards.

President Stewart adjourned the meeting at 1305 hours.

The next meeting will take place in Napa on September 26th, 2003.
