Minutes – Monthly Membership Meeting

UC Davis, CA

President Mathisen called the February 24, 2006 meeting to order at 0938 hours at UC Davis.

Past President Tonya Hoover conducted the pledge of allegiance and Rick Rodewald was appointed Sergeant of Arms.

President Mathisen introduced host Fire Marshal Wes Arvin from UC Davis Fire, who welcomed the group. He then introduced his Fire Chief, Joe Perry, who welcomed everyone to lovely UC Davis.

The organization recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs, Building Officials, and Past Presidents and guests.

Self-introductions were made. President Mathisen asked Past President Rick Terry to declare a quorum, so declared.

A motion was made to approve the January minutes by President Mathisen. Moved, seconded, approved.

Special Presentations

Tribute to Past Presidents – the organization recognized the Past Presidents present at the meeting, and thanked them for their contributions to the organization through the years.

2005 annual report is on the website, hard copies will be available at the workshop

2006/07 budget update – we will be trying to work on it sooner than in the past

President Mathisen asked for a moment of silence honoring Past President Bob Kinney, who passed away recently.

State Fire Marshal Report

Steve Hart gave the State Fire Marshal’s report, report will be in the minutes. There was a code adoption stakeholders meeting this week, results will be posted on the SFM website.

Legislative Report

Gene Gantt gave the legislative report – see minutes. He also mentioned that Ron Keefer will be assisting him with Legislative committee.

Exchange of Ideas

Steve Hart donated another of those ##$$# books for the raffle.

Rocque Yballa discussed the recent fire at one of their schools where it appears the suspect used the cologne Axe to start the fire. Tonya Hoover mentioned she also had fire started the same way.

Bill Greene mentioned a recent phone call he received regarding an inspection report at a nursing home, and has been unable to locate who the inspector was from the state. He asked who is doing those inspections now. Rocque Yballa offered to send him the information. Lorin Neyer then gave him all the contact information.

Theresa Johnson mentioned that we currently have 287 renewals, and said that if you didn’t receive January minutes you probably have not renewed. She also requested that Past Presidents be sure to give her their contact info so they can get the minutes.

Jim Clancy asked for information regarding statistical data for how quickly fire departments can enter buildings.

President Mathisen mentioned they are working on adopting a residential sprinkler ordinance. They met with their water purveyor first, and they are supporting not charging certain fees for the installation of sprinklers in dwellings.

Tom Harvey discussed a recent fire in San Francisco where the hood & duct system was not serviced because the companies kept telling her that they would not service it, that it needed to be upgraded. Gene Gantt mentioned that the SFM bulletin regarding this issue has been pulled from the website.

Fort Hartsfield reminded everyone that there is also an exchange of ideas area on the website. He also talked about the merchandise for sale.

Lisa Beaver from SMUD discussed their current study of protection for transformer vaults.

Rick Terry reminded everyone that it is not too late to register for the workshop. He will be attempting to send emails over the next two weeks for any registered people letting them know of any changes to the curriculum. Rick Rodewald mentioned that the hotel is full, but there may be availability still. Sam Husoe said he checked and the Royal Scandinavian Hotel still has availability.

President Mathisen gave a report of E-board items discussed.

UC Davis and Woodland Fire conducted the raffle.

The meeting was adjourned at about 1400 hours. Next meeting will be at San Mateo County on April 28, 2006. Workshop at Buellton March 13-17, 2006.
