Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting
UC Davis
The November meeting was called to order by President Rick Terry at 9:33 hours at the Walter A. Buehler Visitors Center on the Campus of UC Davis.
BJ Foster, led the pledge of allegiance.
Kent Miller Stockton Fire Department, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.
Host Fire Marshal Wes Arvin welcomed the group to Davis. He then introduced his Chief Mike Chandler. Chief Chandler welcomed the group to Davis. Wes Arvin then introduced his staff: Laura Hornbuckle, Vickie Mandy, Joel Ross, Howard Halter, Pam Emick, Leslie Olson and Chief Phil Davis.
President Terry recognized Liaison Chief Doug Williams, Chief McMullen, Brett Hale Building Official Yolo County and Matt Tarr Building Official City of Selma.
Self-introductions were made. At this time Larry Monette Past President/Judge Advocate, declared a quorum.
A motion was made to approve the November 2000 minutes. Minutes were approved.
President Terry asked Larry Monette to discuss the election of officers. Larry explained the process and then asked for nominations from the floor, none noted. A vote was taken from the floor. The new officers were elected as follows: Danielle Stefani President, Forrest Craig 1st Vice President, Mike Stewart 2nd Vice President, Wes Arvin Secretary, Dennis Mathisen Treasurer.
Exchange of ideas:
Vernon Brown Sacramento Metro Fire District, announced an April Fire Prevention 3A class in Sacramento. See attached flyer.
Danielle Stefani Livermore/Pleasanton Fire Department, announced that they have openings for a Fire Inspector and Hazmat Inspector. The announcement closes on March 5th.
Gale Bate Code Resource, announced that his position on the OSHPOD Hospital Safety Board is ending next year and is looking for someone who would be interested in taking his place.
Tom Harvey San Francisco Fire Department, announced an opening for a Fire Protection Engineer. See attached flyer.
Cliff Vaniman Santa Rosa Fire Department, announced that they have three positions open.
Steve Hart Past President, donated another copy of the California Fire Laws for the raffle.
Larry Larson Past President, announced that Sam Husoe is taking the regional managers position that Larry retired from.
Darrell Harguth Past President, stated that the draft NFPA 1/UFC is out and comments are due by June.
Terry Leyton Central Sprinkler, talked about the veto of AB2115. The Governor has asked for a report to be completed by July 1st. For information you can go to www.firesafeschools.org.
Robert Evans Stockton Fire Department, announced that ATF has a free video on church fire protection. See attached flyer.
Fort Hartsfield webmaster, reminded the group to advertise job openings on the website. Also for the co-chairs to send him the minutes for the website.
Jim DiGrazia Consumer Products Safety Commission, talked about working with colleges on housing safety. They have developed a safety poster available to colleges. Also the annual recall roundup will be focusing on fire hazards this year. See attached letter.
Larry Thude Contra Costa County Fire District, announced that they have 12 openings that they will be trying to fill within that next 3-6 months.
Dennis Mathisen Roseville Fire Department, asked about attic furnace fires and if anyone is actively providing information. Please see Dennis.
Pete Munoa Napa/CDF, announced a juvenile firesetters class in Petaluma on March 1st and 2nd. See attached flyer.
State Fire Marshal Report – Joe Garcia, SFM
We now have a new State Fire Marshal. John Tenant out of the Pasadena Fire Department. The state fire marshal managers and supervisors will be attending the workshop. The new state fire marshal will also be at the workshop. Dan Nahera of the state fire marshals office gave an update on the AB2115 bill. The governor has asked for a report to be submitted by July 2001. Rolf Jenson and Associates has been hired to conduct the study.
