Jim Hartley American River Fire District, led the pledge of allegiance.
Mary Cornelison Contra Costa County FPD Retired, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.
Host Fire Marshal Dennis Mathisen welcomed the group to the City Of Roseville. He then introduced his staff: Pam Cabezas, Linda Brandelius, Tom Dodaro and Bob Stetson. Fire Chief Bill White welcomed the group to Roseville and then introduced Vice Mayor Claudia Gammar who thanked the silent heroes in fire prevention for their work. Vice Mayor Gammar also noted that the new mall in Roseville would be opening on August 25th.
President Terry recognized Liaison Chief Doug Williams.
Self-introductions were made. At this time Larry Monette Past President, declared a quorum.
A motion was made to approve the June 2000 minutes. Minutes were approved as mailed.
President Terry announced that Gini Krippner Madera County Fire Department has filled the vacant Co-Chair position on the Building Standards Committee.
Exchange of ideas:
Larry Larson NFSA, spoke on AB 2115 the fire sprinkler bill for schools. Larry stated that the next hearing for the bill is on August 2nd in Sacramento. He handed out a sample letter for fire departments to put their names on and send in. Larry also announced that he has turned in his resignation and will officially retire on September 20th. Way to go Larry!
Dennis Mathisen Roseville Fire Department, also expressed his encouragement to other departments to send in their letters of support on AB 2115.
Terry Leyton Central Sprinkler Company, stated that there now is list of dates when the Central GB sprinklers changed there design to incorporate the Belleville seal. Terry also mentioned that the California Fire Prevention Institute will be holding the annual conference in Monterey on February 5th – 9th. Exhibitor day will be on the 6th.
Robert Evans Stockton Fire Department, would like to expand there fire prevention week activities and is interested in talking to anyone with ideas.
George Blind Sunnyvale Public Safety, spoke on ANSI Standards for elevators. SFM will attempt to change the elevator heat detector requirements.
Howard Hopper Underwriters Lab, as of April 1st UL certifications are now on line. On June 1st UL changed the way they developed Standards. Standards are now developed using a technical panel, which includes outside individuals.
State Fire Marshal Report – Joe Garcia SFM
The budget change proposal for additional deputies was approved. They will be used for plan review and inspections of state owned buildings in areas without fire departments. The state will require a report on the use of these funds. Joe spoke on changing from a geographical mode to a program mode. They will be asking for an additional 25 positions to fully staff all areas. There are additional interpretations on Nancy Wolfe's desk for approval and distribution. Joe also spoke on SB1896 from Senator Ortiz that has to do with bedridden clients. This bill would provide a definition for bedridden clients and would require the Department of Social Services to declare a patient’s status. Would also require SFM to develop regulations for bedridden client.
