President Arvin called the June 25, 2004 meeting to order at 0932 hours at the Vacaville Cultural Center at Vacaville.
Bill Robertson conducted the pledge of allegiance. Brett Gruben was appointed Sergeant of Arms.
Host and President Wes Arvin welcomed the group and introduced Host Fire Marshal Joel Brick. Mayor Len Augustine welcomed the membership to Vacaville. Chief Brick introduced Assistant Fire Marshal John Fish and invited him to introduce his staff.
The organization recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs and Building Officials.
President Arvin recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs and Building Officials.
Self-introductions were made. President Arvin asked Past President Tonya Hoover to declare a quorum.
President Arvin asked for a motion to approve the May 2004 minutes. The motion was made and seconded.
President Arvin asked for a motion to approve the 2004-5 budget. The motion was made to approve the budget by Dennis Mathisen. The motion was seconded and carried.
President Arvin announced that Richard Carpenter is the new co-chair of the fire service education committee.
SFM Report
Hugh Council and Leslie Haberek provided the membership with a June 2004 SFM Report. (See attached SFM report)
Legislative Report
- John Haberek provided a June 2004 Legislative Report to the Membership. (See attached report)
- John Haberek invited Dave Dewey to discuss AB 2343, which
was reviewed by the Senate Policy Committee
for improvements over $200,000.00. Modifications
have been made in response to concerns of
the committee and the bill is going to Appropriations
and the Floor.
- John Haberek reported on AB 2065. The bill was passed through the committee with amendments and is going to Appropriations and the Floor.
Exchange of Ideas
- Jay Salazar; Building Official, City of Vacaville, reported on the Building Code section regarding tactile exit signs.
- John Haberek reported on a new R.2 booklet published by the Community Residential Care Association of California.
- Sam Husoe reported on a proposed bill that would authorize tax incentives for residential 13-D systems.
- Shiela Lee asked the group for information concerning responsibility for jurisdiction over R.2 Occupancy issues for structural and accessibility code enforcement.
- Bill Green asked the membership to review the new 2004-5 roster for correctness.
- Daren Drake announced that Napa Fire Department has an opening for a Plans Examiner Position.
- Darrell Jones queried the membership about a rumor regarding a Glade Air Freshener recall.
- Sheila Lee invited the membership to join CALBO and to become involved in the organization. She spoke of the intent of CALBO to work with the California Fire Service.
- Ray Bizal provided information on an NFPA issue regarding Hydro Shield Exterior Water Systems for protection of structures from fire. Curt Grieve responded that he has seen the system and that it was effective during the last fire season.
- Joel Brick shared how developers aided in funding a Standard and Covers Study and provided additional funding for the software program. He explained the benefits of the study for staffing and fire protection needs of his community.
- Rick Rodewald provided information regarding the July meeting in Monterey.
- Fort Hartsfield gave a marketing and website
report.
- He noted that the site address is now firepreventionofficers.org.
- He noted a request for information regarding
fireworks sales in Albertson’s Grocery
Stores
that are likely to be Poppers.
- He reported on some of the features and links
contained in the website.
- He is seeking a new vender for shirts.
- Wes Arvin reported on job openings at UCD
and the positive relationships with the So
Cal FPO’s
- Steve Hart reported on a $750,000.00 Federal
Grant for interactive virtual reality fire
training programs for fire inspectors. The
program contains a 21-part Training Module.
He reported that approximately 2,000 programs
would be available for local AHJ and Fire
Service Organizations.
Special Program
M. Scott Foote of INTEREDGE Technologies presented a program to the membership and Scott Rowe of Façade Solutions on fire rated wired glass regulations and technology.
