Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting
Woodland
The March meeting was called to order by President Danielle Stefani at 9:30 hours at the Yolo Flyers Club in Woodland.
Vern Brown, Sac Metro Fire, led the pledge of allegiance.
Glen Tong, CDF-SFM, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.
Host Fire Marshal Bruce Lecair welcomed the group to Woodland. He thanked Kathy Amen for taking care of all the logistics and working with the City of Woodland to gather the multitude of raffle prizes. Chief Lecair also welcomed administrative staff member Emily Rodgers. Division Chief Lecair introduced the Woodland Fire Chief Karl Diekman. Chief Diekman welcomed the group to the City of Woodland.
President Stefani recognized Chief Ken Wagner, Roseville Fire Department.
Self-introductions were made. At this time Rick Terry Past President/Judge Advocate, declared a quorum.
A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the January 2001 minutes. Minutes were approved.
Rick Terry made the following announcements: Reannounced Charlie Gray Award to recipient Steve Hart. Steve gave a nice acceptance speech. Recognized Steve for donating the money from the Workshop Committee, back to the Charlie Gray Fund. Rick also presented a plaque to the Committee for Fire Safe Dwellings, in recognition of their support of a Workshop luncheon. Fort Hartsfield accepted as he is now affiliated with the Committee for Fire Safe Dwellings.
Exchange of ideas:
Steve Hart, NASIP, donated 2001 edition of CA Law Book for raffle after he paid a fine for not properly introducing himself-again. Steve also announced America Burning at Risk, 4th edition, is on the streets. One can find it free at www.usfa.fema.gov, shop on line for publications. Steve then announced he has the Title 25 CCR final text of manufactured housing regulations.
Vernon Brown, Sac Metro Fire, has five openings for journey level inspector-open till filled. There are still openings in the Prevention 3A, sprinkler hydraulics, class sponsored by Sac Metro April 9-13. The high piled storage class is rescheduled.
Angela Sullivan, Santa Clara Fire, announced the retirement dinner for Larry Monette on March 30.
Sam Husoe, NFSA, announced the NFSA exhibit in SF, April 19-21. Sam handed out flyers for classes.
Jim Ferdinand, Alameda County, announced openings for a Deputy Fire Marshal, Inspector and contract Plan Reviewer.
Steve Leyton, Protection Design, wanted information on controlled burns and acts of due diligence.
Bruce Lecair, Woodland Fire, wanted information on hydrant tanks.
Robert Evans, Stockton Fire, showed a flyer from Omega Solutions. This company will replace Omega sprinklers.
Forrest Craig, Novato Fire, is looking for jurisdictions that have info on traffic calming devices.
Shane Clary, Bay Alarm, gave an update on AB931, California Electricians Certification Bill, which was signed into law two years ago. CAFFA is putting together an apprenticeship program that will be certified by the Dept. of Apprenticeship Standards.
Kent Miller, the other half of Stockton Fire, reported he is a member of an ad hoc committee on Safety Standards for marinas. Kent is focusing specifically on the fuel systems and is in the process of fine-tuning the standards that are due out in June.
Dennis Mathisen, Roseville Fire, wants information on Company Inspection Programs. Also, anyone who has dealt with tents over construction sites please see Dennis.
Dan Najera, CDF-SFM, talked about his involvement in kidney dialysis centers and whether or not they should be classified as a "B" or "I" occupancy. Anyone with an opinion should contact him.
State Fire Marshal Report – Glen Tong and Dan Najera, SFM
Glen announced Chief Tennant is very personable and to please take the time to introduce yourself. The new regulations division is to handle both T-19 and T-24. Dan gave an update on AB2115, Fire Prevention on new and existing schools. The deadline for questionnaires has been extended. The questionnaire is available on the safeschools.org website and you need to send it to Rolf Jensen Associates. SB 575, the O’Connell bill, is identical to the previous bill submitted by ex-Senator Lempert. SFM is reviewing it as a spot bill and is waiting for comments from "stake holders".

President Stefani made a motion to give Fort Hartsfield an honorary membership. The bylaws allow this with a two-thirds majority vote. The motion was seconded. A vote was taken with all in favor.
Meeting was adjourned to Committees and Executive Board meeting at 10:37 hours.
