Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting

Yolo Flyer’s Club
President Craig called the January meeting to order at 0930 hours at the Yolo Flyer’s Club.
Steve Hart, Past President, led the pledge of allegiance.
Gale McCloud, Folsom City Fire Department, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.
President Craig announced the commemorative 50-year anniversary pin and congratulated the FPO’s on 50 years of exceptional service in Fire Prevention.
President Craig introduced Host Fire Marshal Bruce LeCair. Bruce welcomed the group to Woodland. Bruce introduced his guest Matt Milleron, the new Fire Marshal for the Winters FD. Bruce also introduced Kathy Amen, Inspector with Woodland Fire and thanked Kathy for her hard work collecting raffle prizes.
President Craig recognized Section Chief Doug Williams and visiting Fire Chief Ken Wagner. President Craig also recognized all of the following Past Presidents who were in attendance.
Special thanks to Steve Hart for providing this impressive list to the rookie secretary!
A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the January minutes with the following change: Laura Mapes was listed as working for Foster City Fire Department and she actually works for Union City. Thanks Keith!
President Craig recognized Section Chief Doug Williams as he was awarded the first annual "Fire Service Official" award from Cal BO. Congratulations Chief Williams!
Self-introductions were made. At this time Rick Terry, Judge Advocate, San Ramon Valley FPD, declared a quorum.
State Fire Marshal Report – Chief Nancy Wolfe delivered an update on several issues being worked on by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. A full report is included with the minutes.
Division Chief Gini Krippner gave an update on the status of the State code adoption process. It is expected that the California Fire and Building Codes will be published on May 1, 2002, with an effective date of November 1, 2002.
Legislative Report – Gene Gantt, Benicia Fire Department – Report delivered to the group. See written report included with the minutes.
Exchange of ideas:
Tom Harvey, San Francisco FD – San Francisco is hiring a Fire Protection Engineer. They have also passed a retroactive sprinkler ordinance for Single Room Occupancy hotels. Tom also announced that the Local 483 Hayward Sprinkler Contractor’s Union is holding a class in April. If interested, contact Tom.
Weston Arvin, UC Davis FD – Congratulated Jim Monty of Lathrop-Manteca FPD for his recent promotion to Deputy Fire Chief. Actually Wes had to pay a fine since he said it was a promotion to Deputy Fire Marshal. Way to go Wes!
Fort Hartsfield, Retired, Webmaster – The Nor Cal website has a new search engine and a new photo album has been posted. Fort is reinstating the website advertising so contact him if you want to market your company on the website. Also, check out all of the new job announcements.
Keith Schoenthal, San Rafael FD – Warned the group that full fire alarm systems are now being installed in single-family homes in his area due to insurance company demands.
Elliot Gittleman, EHS Consultants – Discussed an upcoming public hearing for SB 2030 relating to FPE license requirements. This is a bill we need to watch! If interested in supporting the bill, contact Elliott.
Pat McLaughlin, McLaughlin & Associates – Pat is now contracting with DSA to help them evaluate their Fire Protection Program. Any concerns with DSA please call Pat.
Vern Brown, Retired (NOT!) – American River College is looking for an instructor for Fire Prevention 1C.
Steve Hart, Retired (NOT!) – Donated another California Fire Laws book (also known as that $%^! Book) to the raffle. Thanks Steve!
Bill Greene, Davis FD – The old Title 19/24 class is being revamped. The first pilot class will be held in June.
Larry Thude, Contra Costa County FD – Announced upcoming fire code classes in April.
President Craig acknowledged all Co-Chairs for 2002/2003.
Meeting was adjourned to Committees and Executive Board meeting at 1105 hours.
Afternoon Program – President Forrest Craig recognized Past President Danielle Stefani for her leadership as President in 2001. Forrest also made a presentation to all of the Past Presidents and recognized all of them for their outstanding leadership and contributions to the organization. A group photo was taken. (See Above)
Vern Brown was also recognized again for his receipt of this year’s Charles Gray Award.
President Craig delivered his presentation as incoming President, which outlined the Board’s commitments for the upcoming year.
Committee Co-Chairs gave brief reports on their meetings. Detailed committee reports are in these minutes.
Thank you Woodland Fire Department and all contributors for an excellent and well-attended meeting! It was also great to see all of the Past Presidents! Much appreciation is extended to the Woodland Fire Department and all staff for making the necessary arrangements.
President Craig adjourned the meeting at 1345 hours.
