Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting
Fairfield
Jelly Belly Factory
President Stefani called the November meeting to order at 0930 hours at the Jelly Belly Factory Store in Fairfield.
Jim Lee, Richmond Fire, led the pledge of allegiance.
Diane Grinbergs, Berkeley Fire, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.
President Stefani introduced Host Fire Marshal Steve Johnson. Steve welcomed the group to Fairfield and introduced Fairfield Assistant Fire Chief Vince Webster. Chief Webster gave a very nice welcome to the group and included some history mixed in with a little humor. Steve then introduced his staff who assisted with putting the meeting together: Morgana Chan, Assistant Fire Marshal; Fire Inspectors Kathy Sawyer-Shishido, Mark Hollan and Sherry Dravis; and Kathryn Meredith, Office Specialist.
President Stefani recognized Liaison Chief Doug Williams.
Self-introductions were made. At this time Rick Terry, Judge Advocate, San Ramon Valley FPD, declared a quorum.
A motion was made, and seconded, to approve the October 2001 minutes.
Exchange of ideas:
Angela Sullivan, Santa Clara FD Announced pre-registration for the January meeting. PLEASE NOTE: THE DATE OF THE JANUARY MEETING IS THE 25TH.
Mike Stewart, Sac Metro Fire Announced the upcoming ICBO classes in Vacaville (see attached flyers). Mike also reminded the group of Vern Browns retirement dinner.
Fort Hartsfield, Committee for Fire Safe Dwellings, Webmaster Fort announced he will re-retire as of December 31, 2001. For the record, this is only the second retirement for Fort.
Larry Thude, Contra Costa FPD Announced the following classes for the Spring of 2002: 2001 UFC Overview class, 2001 UFC Update class, and an Article 79/80 class. Dates and locations TBA.
Pat Stranahan, San Francisco FD Announced a sprinkler retrofit ordinance, which was passed in San Francisco. Pat also announced that a synopsis on the World Trade Center will be held November 28 in San Francisco. Contact Pat for details.
Dennis Mathisen, Roseville FD Made available some flyers from St. Marys college for those pursuing advanced degrees.
Steve Hart, NFSIA Donated another copy of the 2001 edition of the CA Law Book for the raffle.
Jim DeGrazia, CPSC Announced a new report on residential fire losses from CPSC (see attached). Candles continue to be a major cause. CPSC is focusing on novelty cigarette lighters as many are not approved. Larry Thude stated a member of his staff recently had an article on novelty lighters published in American Fire Journal.
Bill Tyler, Novato FD Thanked Forrest Craig for his efforts on the recent Code Adoption Class sponsored by Nor-Cal and Novato Fire Dept.
George Blind, Sunnyvale DPS Has a get well card for Bruce LeCair who had back surgery yesterday.
State Fire Marshal Legislative Report Leslie Billington, CDF/SFM Leslie brought a copy of all comments from SFM developed as a result of the 2001 Code Adoption Cycle. Leslie recommended that everyone take a copy and try to get the dates changed so the Fire Service can attend. The BSC held a public meeting on November 15th. Due to an industry challenge, regarding CSST pipe, the entire code adoption process may be delayed.
Legislative Report Gene Gantt, Benicia Fire Department As the legislature is not in session, there is not much new to report. Gene did acknowledge that he will make good on all his bets and is thankful SB 575 was signed by Governor Davis. Leslie Billington is not aware of the time frame associated with SFM development of regulations to carry out SB 575 although Chiefs Krippner and Roxson are working on them.
Meeting was adjourned to Committees and Executive Board meeting at 1010 hours.
Afternoon Program There wasnt an afternoon program as the Operations Director made an executive decision not to have one.
Each Committee Co-Chair gave a brief recap of their respective meetings. Detailed reports to be in these minutes.

President Stefani adjourned the meeting at 1345 hours.
