President Arvin called the November 19, 2004 meeting to order at 0930 hours at the Buck Institute in Novato, California.

Past President Rick Rodewald led the pledge of allegiance.

Invocation, Pastor Ken Weber

Theresa "Duckie" Johnson was appointed Sergeant of Arms.

President Wes Arvin welcomed the group and introduced Host Fire Marshal Forrest Craig who further introduced and thanked the host staff from the Novato Fire Department. Chief Craig welcomed the membership to Novato and introduced Steve Jenson, Building Official, Novato and Fire Marshal Roger Sprague who each spoke briefly about building relationships between Building and Fire Officials and projects within Marin County.

President Arvin recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs, Past Presidents and Building Officials

Self-introductions were made. President Arvin asked Immediate Past President Mike Stewart to declare a quorum.

President Arvin asked for a motion to approve the October 2004 minutes. The motion was made and seconded.

Announcements

The Fire Investigation Committee Position Paper has been completed and will be forwarded to the committee for review and discussion.

Bruce Lecair was thanked for his contributions to the organization as his resignation was announced due to his new duties as the City of Woodland’s Assistant Director of Emergency Services and Fire Department Training Chief.

Past President Mike Stewart announced the nomination of new officers for 2005. The nominations are as follows:

Afternoon Presentation

Ronald Loar, Thermal Vents, Fire Free Coatings, Internal Resistant Systems provided an excellent presentation of fire resistant systems.

President’s Report (see also executive minutes)

President Arvin discussed the current status of the WUI regulations. The board will be looking for progress on this issue before the next fire season.

President Arvin reported that during the next legislative year, Cal Chiefs will likely not sponsor new legislation. The Fire Prevention Officers will be in favor of supporting new legislation as in the past.

President Arvin provided the membership with a report on the progress toward reactivation of the Fire Investigation Committee. President Arvin further reported that the board recommends support of the reactivation of the committee and accepted the position paper prepared by Theresa Johnson. President Arvin will send out the position paper to the membership via the Listserve.

Charlie Gray Scholarship deadline is December 31st President Arvin encouraged the membership to solicit qualified people to apply for the scholarships.

Past Presidents will be given Honorary Membership to the organization and the bylaws will be changed to reflect this.
