Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting
Vallejo


The October meeting was called to order by President Rick Terry at 9:33 hours at the Vallejo Elks Lodge in Vallejo.

Tonya Hoover Moraga Orinda Fire District, led the pledge of allegiance.

Charles Rivers Vallejo Fire Department, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.

Host Fire Marshal Gregory White welcomed the group to Vallejo. He then introduced his staff, Charles Rivers Fire Inspector, Mansfield Simmons Fire Inspector, Todd Swanson Fire Inspector, Leeann Lantrip Secretary, Leina Morris Code Enforcement Officer and his Fire Chief Don Parker. Chief Parker welcomed the group to Vallejo.

President Terry recognized Liaison Chief Doug Williams,

Self-introductions were made. At this time Larry Monette Past President, declared a quorum.

A motion was made to approve the September 2000 minutes. Minutes were approved.


Exchange of ideas:

Jack Kerin Department of Housing, discussed a new task force for mobile home park inspections. There is a meeting in Auburn on November 16th for anyone that is interested.

Steve Leyton Protection Design & Consulting, spoke on the Aquapex plumbing/fire protection system. Steve then introduced Grant Dow regional sales manager for the WIRSBO Company. Grant also spoke on the fire sprinkler system.

Bill Greene Davis Fire Department, informed the group of an article in Sprinkler Quarterly magazine concerning engineer stamps on shop drawings. See attached article.

Steve Hart discussed the 99 version of the California Fire Laws. See attached flyer.

Lew Schalit Tech/Art, informed the group of an e-mail that he received selling a kitchen fire extinguisher named "Fireshaker Interceptor".

Steve Hart stated that he would donate his copy of the California Fire Laws to today’s raffle. Also that he saw the Stockton Fire Department on the news and would like Stockton Fire to comment about it.

Kent Miller Stockton Fire Department, talked about a past drug dealer that had acquired a lot of different stuff in a warehouse. Items such as vehicles, gases, liquids, etc… Kent discussed the inspection on the news.

Jeff Ringleman Vacaville Fire District, reminded the group that next months meeting will be held in Vacaville and requires pre-registration. Also they are expecting a terrific raffle.

Robert Evans Stockton Fire Department, read from a full page Phillip Morris ad that discussed a new safer cigarette paper. The fine print stated that the test material was not representative of typical household materials.

Terry Layton Central Sprinkler Company, reminded the group that the annual workshop will be held on February 5-9, 2001 and that exhibitors day is on the 6th. See attached flyer.

Bill Greene Davis Fire Department, asked if anyone has heard of consolidated attic furnaces. Contact Bill if you have information.

Dennis Mathisen Roseville Fire Department, informed that group of a warehouse fire that was controlled by one fire sprinkler head.

Rick Terry San Ramon Valley Fire District, asked about carnival and fair inspections. He has found a kettle corn popcorn popper that is not UL listed.


State Fire Marshal Report – John Guhl SFM

John informed the group that the California Buildings Standards Commission approved the continuation of the 1998 California Building Code and the adoption of the 2000 UFC, UPC and UMC. The fire extinguisher regulations are pending review at the Office of Administrative Law and should be done by October 31st. Bill Carmac has been promoted to Division Chief and will be responsible for state owned buildings, title 19 plan reviews and inspections.

Afternoon Program – John DeHann President of Fire-Ex Forensics, Inc. and author of

Kirk’s Investigation gave a presentation on fire investigations.

Thank you City of Vallejo and all contributors for an excellent and well-attended meeting! Much appreciation is extended to the Vallejo Fire Department and all staff for making the necessary arrangements. The organization appreciates all raffle contributions that support the organization and committee activities.

President Terry adjourned the meeting at 2:15 hours.
