Minutes - Monthly Membership Meeting
Napa

The September meeting was called to order by President Rick Terry at 9:33 hours at the Napa Elks Lodge in Napa.

Gene Gantt Benicia Fire Department, led the pledge of allegiance.

Steve Hart Past President, was appointed Sergeant at Arms.

Host Captain Steve Ceriani welcomed the group to Napa. He then introduced his staff, Lynn Trickle, Sandra Worgo and Chief Joe Perry. Chief Joe Perry welcomed the group to Napa.

President Terry recognized Liaison Chief Doug Williams,

Self-introductions were made. At this time Larry Monette Past President, declared a quorum.

A motion was made to approve the August 2000 minutes. Minutes were approved with minor spelling changes discovered by 2nd vice president Forrest Craig.


Exchange of ideas:

Rick Terry President San Ramon Valley FPD, announced an opening for a Code Compliance Officer.

Pete Munoa Co-Chair Fire Service Education Committee CDF Napa County, announced that the fire investigation class has been postponed and a new announcement will be coming out soon. See attached new announcement.

Joel Arnaz Fresno Fire Department, stated they have an opening for an Emergency Prepardment Officer. He is also looking for a written policy for window bars in R-1 occupancies.

Forrest Craig 2nd Vice President Novato Fire District, gave a presentation on the Charles H. Gray Memorial Fund Service Award and Scholarship Grant. See attached info. Forrest also talked about a fire in Novato that destroyed two homes. Forrest will donate $50.00 to the Charlie Gray Fund.

Rick Terry President San Ramon Valley FPD, recognized Forrest Craig for his hard work on the Charlie Gray Fund and Scholarship.

Fort Hartsfield Past President Webmaster, reviewed questions that came from the website.

Wes Arvin Treasurer UC Davis Fire Department, reminded the group about the Fire Prevention Certification program offered at UC Davis.

Gail Bate Code Resource, challenged the group to bring there building official to the meetings. And stated that he would pay $50.00 for every building official that attends the monthly meetings.

Note: Not more that five minutes after Gail made that challenge, Stephen Jensen Building Official of Marin County arrived.
 
 
Steve Johnson Fairfield Fire Department, announced that they had passed a single family dwelling sprinkler ordinance for homes outside of a five minute response area. Steve thanked Steve Hart for his help. Also Steve found EZ Pro Fryers being used in a storeroom at a movie theater. They are looking into it for approval.

Kent Miller Co-Chair Hazardous Materials Stockton Fire Department, stated that they had found two EZ Pro Fryers and required a hood and automatic shutoffs.

Rick Thornberry Code Consortium and Rick Terry President gave an update on the ongoing ever changing future building and fire codes.
 
 


State Fire Marshal Report – Joe Garcia SFM

The Hazmat Safety Division has changed its name to the Pipeline Safety Division. The California Building Standards Commission 2000 partnership is finalizing their documents. Phase III, the review for state amendments has begun. Stan Issumura is the new president of the California Building Standards Commission. The CBSC has met with FEMA regarding reimbursements. FEMA stated that an adopted code has to be in place.

Rick Terry President, will be appointing Larry Monette, Tonya Hoover and Rick Rodewald as the nomination committee for next years new executive officer. Nominations will be open for 2 months. An announcement will be made in January and installations in February.


Meeting was adjourned to Committees and Executive Board meeting at 10:40 hours.

Thank you City of Napa and all contributors for an excellent and well-attended meeting! Much appreciation is extended to the Napa Fire Department and all staff for making the necessary arrangements. The organization appreciates all raffle contributions that support the organization and committee activities.

President Terry adjourned the meeting at 3:15 hours.
