Minutes – Monthly Membership Meeting
Petaluma, CA
President Mathisen called the September 23, 2005 meeting to order at 0930 hours at the Petaluma Community Center.
Past President Mike Stewart (Sac-Metro) conducted the pledge of allegiance and Hans Henneberque (OSFM) was appointed Sergeant of Arms.
President Mathisen introduced host Carey Fergus of the Petaluma FD who introduced Fire Chief Chris Albertson to welcome the group.
The organization recognized the visiting Fire Chiefs, Building Officials, and Past Presidents and guests.
Self-introductions were made. President Mathisen asked Past President Rick Terry to declare a quorum.
President Mathisen reminded the members of the Cal-Chiefs meeting next week and the ICC conference in Detroit. Co-chairs from 4 of our committees will be in attendance at the ICC conference.
A motion was made to defer the approval of the August minutes by President Mathisen.
OSFM Report was given by Dan Najara. BSC met and unanimously approved Phase II of the WUI code. Ethan Foote provided a summary of the Phase II requirements and the effective date of the regulations. An update of the IBC and IRC was provided to the BSC by the SFM. Progress on the code adoption will be routinely posted on the SFM web-site. Check the website regularly for working group meeting dates and locations. Legislative Report
Gene Gantt provided the legislative report. Assembly Bill 178 Cigarette Safety is on the Governors desk. Gene publicly thanked Ray Bizal of NFPA for his support and assistance on this issue. He provided statistics on the reduced number of fire fatalities in New York State following the passage of Safe Cigarette legislation.
A resolution will be drafted and forwarded to Cal Chiefs for consideration to oppose Proposition 75.
Exchange of Ideas
Tom Harvey (SFFD) provided an update on the 2006 Nor Cal FPO meeting locations. We are looking for a host agency for the January and April meetings. San Francisco will be hosting the October meeting and members should contact Pat Stranahan (SFFD) 415-983-0354 or at sfharp@juno.com if you plan on attending.
Sam Husoe representing the Workshop Committee provided an update. He also mentioned the NFPA 25 committee is nearing completion of the recommended change that will be forwarded to the office of administrative law.
Fort Hartsfield requested members provide him with updated e-mail information if they are not receiving regular e-mail notifications.
UC Davis is recruiting
Rocque Yballa (Burlingame FD…) discussed an issue he had with DHS inspections being done in his jurisdiction where they wrote up a notice to remove surge protectors. If anyone has experienced this before please call him at 650-558-7618.
Fort Hartsfield mentioned that he has new merchandise for sale.

President Mathisen gave a report of E-board items discussed.
Petaluma Fire conducted the raffle. Thanks to the Sonoma County Fire Prevention Officers for hosting a great meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at about 1400 hours.
