A joint meeting with members of the Building Standards Committee, Fire Code Committee, Hazardous Materials Committee, and the Fire Service Education Committee was held today. Many of the committees are in a holding pattern as we watch the state develop a transition plan to move into the NFPA codes during the next code cycle. We took this unique opportunity to hold a round table discussion of any topic that was of interest to each committee.
Kent Miller, Hazardous Materials Committee Co-Chair brought up the subject of generators being located on building roofs and asked for input from the group about current or proposed codes that would be applicable in this application.
Pat Stranahan provided the group with un update regarding the status of the adult day care regulations. The regulations are scheduled to go to the Building Standards Commission on November 20, 2004. There is another meeting regarding these regulations at 09:30 on November 4, 2003 at the CSFM office in Sacramento.
Vern Brown addressed the group regarding having your local ordinances up to date and properly adopted. Recently Vern has seen a rather large department that he works with challenged on this issue.
Lorin Neyer took advantage of the variety of members present to provide input on what to include in the curriculum for the upcoming Hospital Inspection Classes.
Lorin Neyer also asked the group if anyone had any comments or additions to the letter addressed to Cal-Chief’s the was posted on the list serve by V.P. Wes Arvin. There was none.
We also discussed the upcoming NFPA Meeting in Reno and took a poll as to who was planning to attend. We discussed the agenda for the Reno meeting that it posted on the NFPA website to determine which were the most beneficial days to have a presence at the meetings. It was noted that during the general business meeting someone announced that any California attendees in Reno would be admitted free. No one in this meeting received the email and could not confirm this to be the case. Those planning to attend had made reservation and sent payments in already.
No other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Lorin Neyer
Co-Chair Building Standards Committee
