New co-chairs George
Blind and Bruce Lecair thanked Robert Evans and Wes Arvin for their service
as co-chairs. Both are very valuable members of our organization.
-
Bruce Lecair reviewed
the Committee’s budget for this coming year and distributed a copy of a
draft mission statement for the Committee.
The draft will be reviewed at subsequent meetings and is available on the
website for review. Please forward any recommendations to either co-chair.
-
A list of proposed Committee
Goals was discussed. These include: organizing at least four mid-month
meetings; developing a mission statement; resolving the current conflicting
interpretations of elevator fire alarm requirements; and completing review
of standpipe hose and nozzle requirements. Consideration will be given
to forming ad-hoc committees to work on other issues such as fire alarm
guidelines, underground water main installations, and fire pumps. The list
of proposed goals is available on the website.
-
Mid-month meetings
have tentatively been scheduled for June 8, September 7, December 7, and
March 7, 2001. Locations and times will be announced later. All Committee
members, not just voting members, are encouraged to attend the meetings.
-
Voting members
of the Devices Committee are as follows: George Blind, Linda Brandelius,
Robert Evans, Bruce Lecair, Lynn Trickle, Larry Larson (associate), and
John Gillilan (associate).
-
Scott Moon, Petaluma
Fire, advised that an effort is underway in Sonoma County to standardize
procedures for plan submittal and installation of underground fire water
main systems. The effort may be expanded to include Napa and Marin Counties.
Contact Scott for additional details.
-
Ed Saiz (soon to be
retired – Daly City) summarized the issues surrounding the instal-
lation and maintenance
of Class II standpipe hose and nozzles. The Committee will continue
efforts to propose an appropriate revision to Article 904, Title 19.
-
Ed Saiz indicated that
the ANSI A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators can
be obtained through
the ASME website at:www.asmeny.org.
-
Robert Evans distributed
cut sheets for the "EZ Drop" flexible sprinkler pendant assembly. He will
try to obtain additional information regarding its specific listing criteria.
