Department of Developmental Services: The 200 remaining residents living at Agnews State Hospital will be moving to single family group homes by 6-30-08. Dave Dodds with DODS reported 8 homes are complete and a total of 61 will be built in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda counties. These are SB 962 homes and all will have fire sprinkler systems. The committee expressed concern with the maintenance of the 13D systems installed in the homes and suggested the State should consider annual inspections.
This is a non-profit program funded with public money. Hallmark Community Services is the Builder / Developer. Mr. Dodd asked for help from the fire prevention community to make this a successful transition for the residents. He plans on putting out a flyer with contact phone numbers. Dave Dodds phone number is 916-654-3222.
Title 19 & NFPA 25: It was reported that a meeting was held in Los Angeles on the new NFPA 25 2002 Edition California Version. Approximately 20 fire prevention departments and 70 individuals were in attendance. Bil Murphy with Santa Fe Springs was the moderator. Many questions on the intent of NFPA 25 2002 Edition California Version were addressed and clear explanations were given. A request from the body to improve the forms used for inspection will be addressed by the committee. A new understanding of the relationship between the original Title 19 inspection requirements and the current was the overall outcome of the meeting.
Factory Mutual Global: Data sheets from FM Global are now available on-line at no charge.
NFPA: A new standard is being developed on the commissioning of fire protection systems. It will be called NFPA 3 with a possible publish date of 2011.
Fire Alarm Systems: The laws regulating who can design a fire alarm system are being re-written.
Fire Extinguishers: The requirements for extinguishers in Title 19 are being added to the fire code as a reference item.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Bollier
