Hood & Duct Systems: It was reported that restaurant hood and duct systems are coming to California from out of state manufacturing facilities with pre-designed and pre-installed fire suppression piping systems leaving only the tank hook-up and testing to be done onsite. There was discussion on the question of whether this is against the intent of the Contractors State License Board law requiring the design/installation contractor to hold a valid C-16 license. In attendance was a representative from the office of the State Fire Marshal who stated he will research the issue and report back to the committee.

Title 19 & NFPA 25: It was reported that the effective date for the new Title 19 regulations is April 1, 2007. The new label and inspection forms are completed and drafts are available on the State Fire Marshal’s website at http://osfm.fire.ca.gov . A copy of the completed forms will be required to be sent to the local AHJ not the SFM upon system certification. A cover sheet, SFM Form AES 1, will be required to accompany all forms in order to identify property information, contractor information, etc. As in the past, deficiencies within the system will need to be corrected before the sticker can be applied.

4.2K and 4.9K Residential Sprinklers: It was reported that Tyco residential sprinklers with different K-factors and similar protective covers were incorrectly installed on a jobsite. During a walk through the heads looked exactly the same from a floor level inspection. It was discussed that close inspection must occur to verify the proper K-factor is being installed.

Gas cans: It was reported the gas cans sold in the state of California must be listed by the State Fire Marshal.

 Respectfully submitted,

Jim Bollier, Co-chair
