CSFM Sprinkler Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee had its first meeting to organize future activities. The group will be investigating many issues relating to sprinklers with Title 19/NFPA 25 being a significant one. Steve Hart, Sam Husoe, and Bruce Lecair are members of the Committee.

Elevator Issues

There is nothing new to report with regard to the shunt trip issue. Some AHJs have decided to not install sprinklers in the equipment rooms. With no sprinkler, DOSH will not require a power shunt. The decision to remove sprinklers is strictly a local decision and not necessarily a recommendation from this Committee.

Dennis Lockhard expressed concern regarding the currently mandated elevator cab size in Chapter 30, CBC. The cab size postulates a 76 inch X 24 inch gurney which is smaller than what is actually in use. Dennis is working with the CSFM’s John Guhl to generate an emergency amendment to the CBC to ensure that elevator sizing is proper. If anyone has input to this, please contact either Committee co-chair or Dennis directly.

Fire Alarm Plan Review Guide

With the assistance of Robert Evans, we will be reviewing the current Guide to see if anything should be added or revised. If anyone has any comments for consideration, please forward them to Robert or either of the Committee co-chairs. We will be reviewing comments at the July meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

George Blind, co-chair, Bruce Lecair, co-chair
