Draft Resolution: Sam Husoe distributed the 5th draft of a resolution supporting the installation of residential sprinkler systems. Changes had been made at the suggestion of committee members. Members approved the draft, which will be forwarded to the Executive Board for their approval.

Jim Feld mentioned a National Fire Sprinkler Initiative just published by FEMA and the United States Fire Administration. He said the document suggests the use of partial sprinkler systems in high-hazard areas for retrofit applications in residences. A copy will be e-mailed to the committee for their review.

NFPA 25: Jim Feld reported that the Title 19/NFPA 25 comparison matrix was completed and will published on the NorCal website. It includes a side-by-side comparison of the two documents along with the advisory committee’s recommendation on inspection and testing frequencies. It is still unclear how NFPA 25 will be incorporated into state regulations.

Rangehood System Replacement Guidelines: A draft of a replacement guideline for pre-engineered hood and duct systems was passed out to committee members. The document is designed to assist field inspectors in determining when non-UL 300 compliant hood and duct systems need to be replaced with complaint systems. Committee members were urged to have their inspectors use the guideline in the field and then suggest modifications if the guide doesn’t cover specific situations found in the field.

Fire Extinguisher Regulations: Randy Dysart handed out a brochure from CalSafe describing the new portable fire extinguisher regulations for the State of California. It outlined the change in tear down requirements for stored pressure extinguishers and the continued requirement for annual maintenance and inspection of all portable fire extinguishers by a licensed technician.

Speed Humps: Steve Hart attempted to pass out a draft guideline on construction and use of speed humps, but the committee felt this information, while useful, is the in the purview of the Fire Code Committee.

Respectively Submitted,

David Dewey, Co-chair
