Central Station Procedures:

Attendees discussed an incident reported by Keith Burson where a Simplex Grinnell Central Station did not notify the F.D. after an alarm had been received because they had received it within five minutes of another alarm which they reported. This does not appear to be an "industry wide " procedure. According to representatives from Simplex Grinnell, the alarm in question should have been reported by the Central Station since it was not the same device or zone as the original alarm. However, the Central Station does hold retransmission of an alarm from the same device or zone for five minutes to reduce unnecessary calls to a dispatch center.

CSFM Advisory Committee Meetings:

CSFM advisory committees are being restricted to only one meeting for calendar year 2003. This directive originated from the State Department of Finance as a result of a requirement contained in the 2003-04 Governor’s Budget Summary. It was suggested that we write a letter regarding this directive stressing how important these committees are. Co-chairs will investigate this matter further.

2003-04 Goals and Objectives were reviewed by attendees.

NFPA 20 – Fuel Maintenance:

Terry Leyton reported on the proposal for NFPA 20 that would add requirements for maintenance and testing of diesel fuel supplies. The proposal will be presented for vote at the NFPA meeting in May. For additional information, consult the Fuel Technologies web site (www.fueltechinc.com).

Draft Resolution: Attendees briefly discussed a draft resolution supporting installation of residential sprinkler systems. There were some questions regarding the statistics utilized in the resolution. Sam Husoe will follow up.

Handouts: Steve Hart distributed copies of two issues of NFSA’s "Tech Notes". One issue provides details regarding the 2002 versions of NFPA 13, 13D, 13R, and 24. Contact George Blind if you would like a copy.
