  1. MID-MONTH MEETING MINUTES

George Blind reviewed the minutes from the mid-month meeting held on May 10, 2001 in Sunnyvale. The meeting consisted of a review of the conflicts and comparisons noted in Title 19 CCR, Title 8 CCR, NFPA 25 and NFPA 1962 – relative to the use of linen hose and shut off nozzles. The committee is currently researching for technical data on inspection and replacement of unlined hose still found in use in standpipes.

  2. OLD BUSINESS
  1. Elevators

To date, the Fire Equipment and Devices Committee has not received a response from DOSH staff in regard to the recommendations from this committee on changes to the ANSI/ASME A-17.1 standards included within Title 8. The letters were written in support of elimination of the shunt trip, shielding of electrical equipment and the blinking helmet indicator. George Blind will make another attempt at communication Jim Meyer from DOSH in order to gain a response to the recommendations.

  1. New Business

At next month’s meeting in Stockton, we will review the Fire Alarm Plan Review Guide and compile any recommended changes.

We will forward our recommendations to the State Fire Marshal’s Fire Alarm Advisory Committee which will be revising the current version of the Guide. All Committee members are requested to review the document before the meeting.

  2. Roundtable
  1. Terry Leighton noted that the GBR Study is still in progress. The O-ring style has been suspended. Central Sprinkler has completed some large change-outs of the original GBR Heads.
  2. Steve Hart donated two disks of the NFPA 1 2003 addition.
  3. Steve Hart offered that a recent publication noted that State Farm Insurance has suspended the use of ISO Ratings in favor of utilizing zip codes for determining insurance ratings.
  4. George Blind submitted a show and tell on some new technologies in fire sprinkler installations.
  5. The committee entertained a discussion on smoke detection and fire alarm systems in computer rooms with regard to air velocity and smoke detector placement.

Respectfully Submitted,

Bruce Lecair, George Blind
