Draft Resolution: Attendees discussed the latest revision to the draft resolution supporting the installation of residential sprinklers. The discussion of additional revisions will continue at the mid-month meeting so that a finalized document may be presented to the Board in June.

NFPA 25/Title 19: No substantive changes since the last meeting. The sub-committee is still putting final touches on the matrix.

Sprinkler PR: Fred Benn reported that NFSA and AFSA will be teaming up to sponsor radio and TV ads promoting sprinklers in the Bay Area.

Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act: HR 1824 would enact legislation to allow a building owner to depreciate the cost of a sprinkler system installation over a 5 year period. This bill needs our support. Go to the NFSA website for links. www.nfsa.org

Halon Replacement: The European Union has banned the use of Halon products after December 31, 2003. DuPont announced last year that it would be marketing FE 25 as a replacement agent for Halon 1301. The physical properties of FE 25 closely match those of 1301. Systems may be converted to FE 25 without requiring the piping system to be redesigned. Even though use of 1301 has not been banned in the US, FE 25 may prove to be a practical choice.

Mid-Month Meeting: A mid-month meeting will be held on June 4 at the Sprinkler Fitters Local 483 training facility in Hayward – 23312 Cabot Blvd – at 9:30 A.M. Contact Jim Bollier if you need directions – 510-782-9483 or email George Blind. We will be finalizing the residential sprinkler resolution and preparing a position paper regarding replacement of non UL 300 rangehood systems.

 Respectfully submitted,

George Blind, co-chair
