  1. Committee Reports
  1. CSFM Fire Sprinkler Advisory Committee

    1. Bruce Lecair reported on the progress of the last committee meeting in November and the progress of the committee to date. A presentation will be conducted at the Annual Meeting in Monterey during the Thursday luncheon.

  2. Smoke Detectors
  1. Bruce Lecair reported on the study of audible warnings provided by smoke detection with regard to sleeping children. The committee discussed the testing process conducted by Arlington Fire Department during the study and to the appropriate responses to the media suggested by FEMA in response to the study.
  1. Roundtable
  1. Rodney Slaughter suggested that questions regarding the new Fire Extinguisher Regulations should be forwarded to Mike Waldron at the CFSM.
  2. The committee discussed 2-wire to 4-wire conversion modules for addressable panel retrofits in response to concerns raised by Al DeBella. The committee suggested that the modules should be listed and approved for applications and uses.
  3. Ron Mahlman reported on the plan review check list for NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Systems. He will be providing the committee with a report during the next monthly meeting.
  4. Ron Kunkel discussed the CBC Chapter 35 positive alarm sequence requirements and issues with finding listed devices that will meet the requirements of this section of the code.
  5. Steve Hart reported on the CSFM NFPA 13, !3-D and 13-R 3 day class. He will be providing copies of resource lists and .05 density sprinkler head manufacturers at the next monthly meeting.
  6. Theresa Johnson discussed a problem in her jurisdiction with a non-conforming occupancy with a new Assemble Occupancy located on the 5th floor. She is looking for code information on methods to gain compliance with the new occupancy.
  7. Jim Bollier discussed the .05 density factors with regard to retrofit installations to existing residential occupancies. The committee discussed the ramifications of the high cost of water purveyor fees on retrofit installations.
