I. REVIEW OF MINUTES

The minutes were approved as submitted. Special thanks to Lynn Trickle for recording the minutes of the last meeting.

II. ROUNDTABLE

George Blind discussed the issue of integrated/combined fire sprinkler/domestic water supply systems. The Residential Fire Sprinkler Institute (formerly Operation Life Safety) promotes consideration of this system on their web-site (www.firesafehome.org) as a cost effective alternative. Steve Hart has an article from The National Fire Sprinkler Industry on the subject. He can make the article available upon request. The article discusses the different points of view between the sprinkler and plumbing industries.

G. B. passed around a new Spectralert ceiling strobe with an adjustable candela mechanism that is manufactured by Simplex.

David Secoda provided information on a Thermotech automatic smoke detector that Bay Alarm is installing in elevator shafts.

Robert Evans reported on an I-1.2 occupancy that is being constructed with an automatic fire sprinkler system and a full NFPA fire alarm system. Smoke Detectors will be installed in all rooms.

R.E. reported on a crustacean that is infecting sprinkler pipe in some jurisdictions.

R.E. reported that New Jersey legislation has ruled that it is illegal for municipal water companies to charge stand-by fees for fraternity and sorority houses, which contain fire sprinkler systems.

R.E. reported that there is a conflict between NFPA 72 and the ADA Requirements for horns, strobes and pull-station requirements.

So-Cal FPO would like a letter of support from the Nor-Cal FPO in support of these proposals. G.B. provided a sketched proposal of an alternate method of solving the ANSI/ASME A-17.1 challenge. The proposal involved a proposed layout of the sprinkler system and control valve in the elevator equipment room. A long discussion took place regarding the need to change the ANSI/ASME requirements for the elevator equipment room. It was decided to make contact with the So-Cal FPO committee to discuss the issues and to resolve the questions and challenges on the proposed amendments.

Respectfully submitted,

Bruce Lecair, George Blind
