Old Business:
I’m happy to report that OHSPD inspectors
are no longer requiring flow switches on
main drains/inspector test valves for hospital
sprinkler systems.
New Business:
Bollinger- Alameda County FPO’s in conjunction
with Local 483 Sprinkler Fitters conducted
a live burn on Sept. 23 with sprinklers installed
within test cells. Jim will have additional
info. (availability of report and video)
at next FPO meeting. (Alameda County contact
is Wayne Whitmore)
Harvey- Required a building owner to submit
sprinklers (which he thought were +50 yrs
old but later determined the heads weren’t
that old) to U.L. for testing. U.L. test
results indicated the condition of the fusible
element was acceptable but the sprinkler
contained “medium corrosion”. Apparently
U.L. threw it back onto the local AHJ as
whether to accept the existing sprinklers
of have them changed out. Howard Hopper will
research the testing/acceptance criteria
(light/medium/severe corrosion criteria)
used on sprinklers 50 yrs and older and follow
up.
The group had a brief round-table discussion
regarding several AHJ’s enforcing codes (editions)
not adopted by the state. It was the opinion
of the group that an AHJ should not/could
not selectively enforce a code not adopted
by the state unless they specifically adopted
it in their city/dept. policy or ordinance.
The committee invites anyone with an item
of interest for the group to please attend
our next committee group discussion at the
monthly meeting in Modesto.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jaymae Wentker/Ed Tubbs-Co-chairs
