NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRE PREVENTION OFFICER’S

General Discussion:

Due to the limited attendance at the committee meeting, only the two co-chairs were present, we continued to review and develop goals for the committee.

We are working closely with Bob Gebel and Laura Billion representing the Los Angles Area Fire Marshal’s to utilize their existing Arson Net statewide as a means of investigators quickly sharing information by electronic means in a reasonably secure environment. The primary obstacle that needs to be overcome is to have either the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Cal Chief’s or Nor Cal/So Cal FPO’s assume responsibility for the operation and or ownership of the system. We are also exploring various means of funding the operation of the system without billing individual departments. Use of the system will be limited to public-safety type fire investigators, allied law enforcement, representatives of District Attorney’s Offices, along with State and Federal agencies.

In the near future, we will explore the possibility of the co-chairs from the north meeting with the co-chairs for the south in an effort to develop a working relationship and to develop common goals.

We are also planning to make contact and or hopefully meet with CCAI representatives prior to their July conference so that we can begin working together in the development of training opportunities and sharing resources between the two organizations.
