Thomas Harvey, San Francisco Fire
Discussion Items:
T19/ Fire Code Merger
We discussed the upcoming meeting with SFM code development staff on February 21st. It was decided that Rocque and Dan would develop three examples of what the blended code would look like. An example of what a merged section would look like using the Bonding of Chairs provisions; what a merged chapter would look like using the Tents Chapters; and an example of what a removed section would look like using Section 1.14 from Title 19 and Section 107 from the IFC.
Elevator Shunt Trip
Tom brought up the issue and has offered to do a comparison of the old and new provisions of ASME A17.1. This standard is enforced by OSHA’s elevator safety inspectors. The concern is on how the elevator shunt trip is to interface with the fire alarm system according to the new standard. There was also discussion regarding the "firehat button" in the elevator car that apparently is not required by the old standard. The Equipment and Devices committee will be brought into this discussion as it has impact on the fire alarm system.
Title 19, Section 3.09
Dan brought up the provision for emergency information signs that are required in hospitals and that this code section requires that the specified information must be available to the "physically disabled". If the textual information required by 3.09 is provided in ADA-compliant Braille, the size of the sign is about 9sq.ft. Dan offered to draft a code interpretation but was informed by Rocque that the SFM was putting together a work group to address 3.09. Depending on the work group’s mission, a code interpretation may not be needed.
The next meeting will be at the February General Membership meeting in Woodland.
