- The NFPA 1 Committee met in June to review changes to the Draft of the new NFPA 1 / Uniform Fire Code. During the meeting, clarification was given to subcommittees to follow the lead of NFPA 5000 with regard to hazardous materials and maximum allowable amounts.
- Reinhard Hanselka will be leaving the committee. Due to family situations, he has been asked to relocate to Florida. Though he will be 3,000 miles away, he will always be as close as a phone and e-mail. The committee thanks him for all his years of help and will miss his monthly input on EVERYTHING!
- The Committee will be reviewing the 2001 California Fire Code, Articles 63, 74, 75, 79, 80 and Appendix Sections on HMMP’s and Chemical Classifications.
- During a recent refrigeration warehouse project in Stockton, Kent Miller discovered that many UFC requirements were out of date. Haz Mat Committee members met jointly with UFC Committee members to discuss this issue. Both committees agreed that the Article needed to be updated. The committees agreed to begin a rewrite of the Refrigeration Article after the September ICC Annual Meeting. Anyone wishing to provide input is welcome.
