MID-MONTH MINUTES
July 18, 2002

1.0 CALL TO ORDER/INTRODUCTIONS

Meeting called to order at 1000 hours by Co-Chair Diane Grinbergs and Leina Morris.

2.0 MINUTES

2.1 Minutes from June 20, 2002 meeting approved as written.

3.0 PUBLIC EDUCATION – Emergency Traffic & Vehicle Fires

3.1 Diane inquired what other jurisdictions were instructing citizens on vehicles fires. The current instruction is to call 9-1-1 and back away from the vehicle in the event of an explosion. Do not open the hood that allows more oxygen to feed the fire. Diane advised information that unfortunately, there are some commercial truck companies that are instructing their drivers to crawl under the vehicle with the extinguisher and attempt to extinguish the fire from the underside. We don’t even have to go into why this is not a good idea.

4.1 Fire Safety Cards and Coloring Book revision is currently under revision by the subcommittee members. Diane has a friend in Berkeley to recreate the artistry.

4.2 Leina and Jon are to make the amendments to the Residential Safety Power Point and place it on the Norcal web site.

• NEW BUSINESS

5. Jojy advised of a great video "Fireworks; Illegal and Dangerous". She also has a Spanish video on fire safety and don’t play with matches.

5.3 The committee has ninety days to complete the worksheet for the Norcal legislative committee and submit to it by September.

5.4 Contra Costa Fire received grant money to create a Spanish Juvenile Fire Setter video. The re-enactment was based on a true story of two young boys playing with matches and the consequences of their actions.

5.5 Check out the American Fire Journal on "UFO’s" (flame balloons) and the hazard they present.

5.7 Switch the August 15^th meeting from Novato Fire to Contra Costa Fire. Menlo Fire will host the September Meeting.
