Nor Cal Public Education Committee
Mid-Month Meeting Minutes
Roseville Fire Department
August 16, 2001
Attendees:
Kathy Saywer-Shishido------------------------Fairfield Fire
Jonathan Johnson-------------------------------San Mateo Fire
Pam Cabezas-------------------------------------Roseville Fire
Diane Grinbergs---------------------------------Berkeley Fire
Co-chair Diane Grinbergs called the meeting to order at 10:10am at the Roseville
Fire Department Training Center.
Old Business:
The committee pursued the subject of Novelty Lighters that have been found on the shelves of convenience stores, department stores and just how available they may be to children. Many recalls for the lighters have been found on the CPSC website. Members were encouraged to pull up this information and take action if necessary in their own fire protection areas.
The most recent Central Sprinkler Recall was discussed. It was agreed that the information available through Central and CPSC "on line" is excellent public education information and should be made available through their appropriate divisions.
Diane reported that another inquiry regarding the PSA disc available through So Cal Public Education committee was made just a day ago. No answer has been received as of yet but I know they will be available to us as soon as the discs have been copied. They will be for sale for $10 a piece.
New Business:
The need for the development for a new activity-meeting agenda calendar was discussed. We will address this subject again next month when there are more members present.
Leina Morris was not able to make the meeting today to report on the power point program development progress.
Our Committee page on the Nor Cal FPO Website has all of the most recent hyperlinks added and contains a" plethora" of public education links to resources. Please visit the site and take advantage of the material! All the search work has been done for you and all you have to do is "CLICK"!!!!
Round Table:
Kathy Shishido brought a product that was discovered for sale in the area. They are considered to be "Safe and Sane" fireworks but target kids. The product is called "Smoke Balls" and when ignited emit a large amount of colored smoke. If your city or county does not allow the sale of these types of fireworks, then take an inventory of the shelves that sell novelties to kids and see if they are for sale in your district or department areas.
Pam Cabezas reported that they just completed their "Future Firefighter’s Camp. Their camp is offered in the summer months to children of Middle School age for $99.00 for a week of CPR and first aid training, Fire suppression activities, such as fire extinguisher education, a "Muster" and even Water Rescue training. According to Pam, it was a great success and received wonderful evaluations by participants and parents alike.
Good Job Roseville!!!!!!!!!!!!
Respectfully Submitted,
