WUI Minutes – San Francisco, April 22, 2005

Items Discussed:
- Update on the Chapter 7A – Divided into two
parts. Part one to be submitted for May meeting
and part two to be completed for a September
submittal. Information will be placed on
the FPO webpage and SFM page.
- Cal Chiefs WUI Conference in being held in
LA on June 6 through the 8 at the LA Convention
center. Cost for registration is $65.00.
The committee is involved in providing a
program for the conference. Check the Cal
Chief webpage for info or contact Tonya or
Kate by email.
- There will be an example support letter posted
on the FPO website for the upcoming WUI regulations.
If you have a chance, please get your support
in to BSC.
- Proposed legislation from Senator Kehoe’s
office (SB1084) which would require the SFM
to establish a certification program for
WUI fire safe inspectors, reviewers, and
plan specialist. This is the project that
the committee has been working on. Stay tuned.
There is support of the insurance industry,
SFM and Cal Chief.
- First pilot class scheduled for last week
of May in Napa. Check with Kate for openings
in the class. (when she gets back from FRANCE
to see if there is space left)
- Goals and objectives were submitted to the
board and so far we have board approval.
We are focused this year on the certification
program and our continued work with the building
standards.
Open discussion:
- Resolution on certification program – Forrest
will follow up with this. Would like to have
it for the May Cal Chiefs meeting.
- The committee welcomes Julie Davis from Central
County Fire District.
- Committee watched a DVD developed by Colorado
Springs Fire Department on WUI and their
FireWise plan.
