Urban Wildland Interface Committee
Minutes for October 25, 2002 in Vacaville

Members Present:

Ethan Foote – California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection

Bill Robertson – Pebble Beach Fire Department

Tonya Hoover (Co-Chair) – Moraga-Orinda Fire District

Lucky Thomas – Berkeley Fire Department

Diane Grinbergs – Berkeley Fire Department

Not Present:

Kate Dargan (Co-Chair) CDF/Napa County Fire

Doug Bridewell – Napa City Fire Department

Discussion Items:

1. The committee discussed the activities with the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the writing of a proposed Chapter 7A of the California Building Code. This proposed chapter is intended to be a performance-based chapter for design and installation requirements of building components within wildland areas.
2. The committee meant briefly with the Building Standards Committee and the Fire Code Committee to introduce us and share with them what the committee is assisting the SFM with (the proposed Chapter 7A).
3. The committee also discussed working on a brief Goal Statement and objectives for the committee.

 Action Items:

1. Ethan will be doing a brief summary and impact for local jurisdictions of AB 2993. It is hopeful that this will be provided to the organization.
2. Committee members will be reviewing sections of the International Building Code and NFPA 5000 for comparison with the proposed Chapter 7A.
3. A current committee list will be prepared for the NorCal Board of Directors along with anticipated expenditures.

Next meeting with SFM is November 5^th at the SFM offices. Next committee meeting is on November 22 at the NorCal meeting in San Rafael.
