Discussion and updates on existing projects including:

  1. Defensible Space Curriculum (Dargan) – October 20th confirmed as curriculum development day. Meeting will be all day, held at Napa Co Government Building, from 0900 – 1630. Goal for day is to produce a concept paper for NorCal executive board to review and possibly approve for submittal to State Board of Fire Services Training and SFM certification.
  2. UWI Code Comparison (Hoover) – Tonya will lead the comparison of NFPA 5000, ICC UWI, and NFPA 1144 comparison in order to have a recommendation for CFC inclusion, model code recommendations, or other code needs.
  3. Damage Assessment Project (Foote) – Ethan is continuing work with Firescope and CDF to incorporate NorCal/CalChief interests in data collection and analysis for structure loss during wildfire/UWI events. He will prepare a report to be submitted to the UWI Committee and executive board at a future date that will include need for data gathering, program recommendations for dispatch to incidents, cost, and integration with other damage assessment functions by other entities (OES, FireScope, etc).
  4. East Bay FireWise Conference – Lucky Thomas announced the conference October 15 – 17. Also alerted members to a new congressional report from National Association of Public Administrators (NAPA) called "UWI Fire Loss".
  5. UWI Building Standards Update – Tonya updated the group as to SFM’s proposal for Building Code (Chapter 7) revisions to the Building Standards Commission. The SFM was directed to continue the work and further develop the proposals. The existing committee will continue to meet with SFM and work on the proposal for a second submission.
  6. Pub Ed "UWI Pub Ed Programs" – Hearty concurrence to work with the Pub Ed committee to offer a Pub Ed training class this spring for how to plan and conduct UWI Pub Ed programs. Need instructors and a sponsoring facility.
