NEXT MEETING
August 11, 2004 – Torrance - Hoarding
President
Need to ascertain if Ken Q. has ordered more badges, raffle tickets, receipts per Hank.
Laura will make new meal tickets.
Weekly teleconference with Chief Garcia. Forward issues to her prior to Thursday mornings.
CFCA wants meetings and training opportunities to be one their calendar. It was discussed to have one location to access the calendar; whether it is on CFCA or LAAFMA or www.firepreventionofficers.org. The other sites could link to that location.
2nd VP /Treasurer
Meeting on September 8, 2004 will be in Carlsbad Presentation –Ansul commercial .
Collected $1056 for today’s meeting. Meal was $23/per person. Two attendees did not pay. 57 Attendees.
Ken Q needs to Contact Bruce Lecair about filing tax return.
Secretary
Ken K. will check with LAAFM and determine most probable next action with the LAAFM Discussion List.
Ken K. and Kevin will help Ken Q. rectify checking account issue.
Check on progress of Torrance scheduling calendar.
Board agreed to pay NorCal for merchandise received.
Operations
There was $100 over payment to "The Reef" in May. Check came made out to David Zinnen. Hank will follow-up.
Judge Advocate
Penni working on presentations, classes for Workshop. Consultants have asked or suggestions on topics.
NorCal FPO
Joint Meeting with NorCal on Sept. 20/ all day.
Joint Letters have gone out on 2065 and to LAAFM about the discussion list coordination.
LAAFM
LAAFM has received approval from LA Area Chiefs to move forward with talks with Cal FPO’s about consolidating lists, training.
CSFA
Need to move forward with Code Committee work assignments.
The Board will review the CSFA website and brainstorm how to best serve the membership of both organizations.
The Committee has written some articles for publication in the magazine.
SFM
As the incoming SFM reviews the composition of the existing advisory committees, the opportunity for participation may arise on several committees. (Auto Extinguishing Systems.)
It would be more convenient if some of the advisory Committee meetings were in the south.
Discussion about whether FPO Committees need to go through their respective Boards or if it’s appropriate to contact
the SFM for e.g.2065 or 1361 in the Annual Rule Making process?
How can the FPO’s work better with the OSFM?….
Conference calls with OSFM a positive step
NFPA - Ray offered to help us fix 5000 and 1. He asked us to ID the
Sections/areas we had concerns with.
NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R are accepting proposals until November 5.
General Concerns were expressed about the effectiveness of the
Committees when participation with the parent organization is lacking from either Committee members or Chairs. Reports and minutes for example, are expected from each Committee, every meeting. Additionally Committee actions involving other Committees, other organizations, CFCA should be discussed with or at least passed through the Board.
Fire Code/ Building Standards
Fire Protection Equipment and Devices –
Public
Fire Service Education – Co-Chairs are Colleen Balch from Carlsbad, Robert Nolan from Brea.
UWI – Has scheduled a presentation with CFCA. May ask for more member departments to participate.
Workshop – Detailed Workshop report next meeting
PPAC
Raffle – Ken K (Aug); Hank (Sept)
Marketing – Ken K. will coordinate with Ken Q. to pay NorCal
for any outstanding debts. (Invoice from Fort?)
Outreach – to CFCA
To other FPO’s – Promote attendance at the ICC Major Jurisdictions Committee meeting on Sunday Sept 26. And encourage participation in Annual Business Meeting also in Salt Lake.
Legislation – Bob Gebel and John Haberek will coordinate for the
South, the effort to inform Legislators about 2065.
Consider petitions to SFM on:
Non-ambulatory clients in E-3 Occupancies
SB 1896
Delayed egress provisions of 1361.(SUBMITTED)
Devices Committee agreed to work with NorCal on updates to CBC
Chapter 35 and Art. 91/ state amendments to standards.
Including NFPA 13 & 72.
Ask Steve Leyton to assist on ICC sprinkler standard
OSFM and CFCA…Our Role?
Meeting scheduled for July 28 with CFCA
If state agencies have stopped working on the state
amendments, where should we expend our time and energy?
Disposal of confiscated fireworks a continual problem.
Residential sprinklers.
DSA - Discussed support for Steve Castellanos.
